I have been going to Hillery's since 1974 - when they were located on Lewis Ave in North Chicago. Before that, I went to a little place on Sheridan rd in North Chicago (Partners) but after it burned down I started going to the place on Lewis Ave. The ribs at the Sheridan Rd location (the one that burned down) tasted identical to Hillery's, so I am guessing it was reborn as Hillery's. After the place on Lewis Ave in Waukegan closed, I started going to the N. Lewis location in Waukegan. I have also gotten ribs from both the Kenosha and Round Lake (before it closed) locations. RIBS I HAVE EVER HAD - PERIOD !!
My husband and I stopped by to try out the place because it sounded interesting and our meals were spectacular! We both ordered the beef brisket sandwich. Loved the tangy BBQ flavor. We'll definitely be back! A helpful note: they are cash only, pick-up only, and at the time of writing this review, they require masks, so ensure to prepare before stopping by! It looked like they only had one employee (the owner), so they're a small operations. Very much worth it for the delicious BBQ.
Hidden gem of a restaurant Sometimes the best things in life just pop up In an unassuming area with minimum traffic, there comes a great BBQ Kenosha isn't known for this element of food but here there is a good go to Food is delicious and the smell a lone is intoxicating
The food is delicious. But they need to hire somebody to answer the phone and take orders. It takes at least 20 minutes to make a order. People have to sit and wait 20 minutes. Because they don't answer the phone.
Laverne and her husband are beautiful people. There food is always delicious.
If there were any hills in this state, I'd stand on one, and shout praises to the masses. Seriously, I've been meaning to check this place out for quite some time before or after a kingfish game, but never had the time. Well, today all of that changed. I was driving by, needed lunch, and ended up with both lunch and dinner for around $12. Had brisket, and tips with the hot BBQ sauce. The sauce bites you, then backs off seductively, unfolding bit by bit until it just disappeared, leaving the smoky flavor of the meat to just settle in. It's a good flavor, the kind of flavor you invite inside for a beer and share fantastic tales of days gone by (with only a touch of embellishment). The amount of food you get is absolutely staggering. If you've got back problems, or can't curl a 55lbs dumbbell, I'd recommend bringing help. As I alluded to briefly above, they don't skimp on filling the box. It's completely full, with the oh so succulent 'cue wrapped safety in foil lined paper. I should have stopped eating long before I did, and I still have another meal out of this box. So, go visit this place. It's not a pretty building, but that's not what makes the food good. I can still taste the smoke!
I use to come here often when i use to live in the area. Now that i live in Maryland its still such a treat to come and get the rib tips whenever im in town. Its something about that BBQ smell that just gets me. And the taste...absolutely amazing. Customer service is excellent. Very warm and friendly.
Back in England were I'm from now but went there a bunch of times . Being looking at the online menu for ideas..over the years I've tried to copy that bellypork in the bbq in the tinfoil. Love to know how they do the meat and sauce...food is off the charts nice as I remember. That slice of dry bread always made me chuckle...good stuff.
