Had the brisket nachos here and they were absolutely loaded — melted cheese, BBQ sauce, beans, and perfect bark on the meat. This place knows how to do comfort food right. The portions were huge and the flavor was legit. Drove out of our way to come back here (repeat trip through the country) and am happy we did.
We stopped here on our drive to Dallas. It is a bit off that beaten path in an industrial part of town. Good and staff were super friendly for a Saturday afternoon. The wings were fried to perfection with a great seasoning and flavor-not greasy. This gives the fried chicken flavor without ordering a full fried chicken-yum! Rib meat fell off the bone. Brisket was tasty, but the cabbage and yams were awesome. Our sweet teas were never empty. This place is not for those in a hurry as everything is made fresh and sitting there is like hanging with your family. Thank you for the much needed break from the road with good old great hospitality.
I'm 54 years old and I had the Friday special which is southern fried catfish. For 10 bucks I I received the best fish dinner that I've ever had. From the fish to the sides and the amazing cornbread. I can't say enough about this place. The gentleman that was running it was one of the most friendly people I've ever met.
This was mine and my husband's first time eating at Shi Lee's and we will definitely be back! I had the half catfish dinner with collard greens and beans and dirty rice. It was by far the best meal I've had! The service the owner provided was top- notch and incredible! And to find out how much he does for the community was a plus! If you're in town and need some good soul food, make sure you stop by Shi-Lee's!
The food was PHENOMENAL! There were 4 adults and 2 kids. Everyone got drinks, total came to $117 but there was so much food!! If we had paced ourselves we could have taken food home….if being the operative word here. I would definitely eat here again!
Boss Lady and I came in for something a little different in Amarillo. The joint's not too petty to look at, but the food more than makes up for it. It's very dated and needs a make-over. We had an awesome conversation with the owner/cook who entertained us for a while. We tried the chicken fried chicken with gravy (ask for no BBQ sauce), fried rib, fried cabbage, potato salad, ox tails, fried okra, gumbo, and corn bread. It all was very tasty. We took a piece of chocolate and lemon cake with us...they were delicious! If you're in the area, come try Shi Lee's, just don't be scared of the outside.
The best food I have had in a long time! I had the pork chops, red beans and rice and the cabbage. Lots of food and I ate all of it!! The women were so helpful and patient with our questions. Even brought out an ox tail for us to try (it was out of this world!!). We will be back!
Shi Lee’s is outstanding BBQ. Shi is a hoot, with a wry sense of humor. Ribs and brisket were perfectly prepared. But the side dishes!! I’m guessing there were at least 20 to choose from (though some were not available). I had the best jalapeno beans I’ve ever had. The cafe is small and there were several takeout orders so be patient. It’s worth the wait. We were just passing through but Shi Lee’s Barbeque and Soul Food Cafe might just be worth a long return road trip.
