What a gem! The Female bartender with the purple hair and whose name starts with an R- thank you! She was amazing! Helped my 80 year old grandparents have a wonderful time. Lovely bar, wonderful atmosphere and selection. Thanks again!!
The best bar in Grassmarket. Located in a very handy area as it’s nearby the main attractions but the prices are very reasonable and tbh very cheap for Edinburgh. The super-friendly barman, Joel made us feel very welcome and made really good recommendations for where to go after. Genuine kindness and 10 out 10 customer service. Will come back on and on.
Wandering around Edinburgh, I saw the Oz Bar. I wasn’t quite sure at first if the "Oz" meant yellow brick roads or Hume Highway. A few steps closer, and the cartoon murals of Australia’s most dangerous fauna quickly cleared that up — this was definitely aiming for the kangaroo kind of Oz. I visited around midday, so it was very quiet, making it hard to judge the full vibe. They proudly advertise showings of NRL, AFL, and cricket — a good sign for homesick Aussies in need of a familiar sporting fix. It could be worth aiming for this oasis when your team’s kicking off from the other side of the world. The decor features lots of Aussie kitsch - topped of by the wall-sized Aussie "Last Supper" — a playful homage to ‘The Last Supper’ by Leonardo da Vinci — reimagined with icons like Steve Irwin, Cathy Freeman, Eddie Mabo, alongside Karl from Neighbours. The barman wasn’t Australian, which was funny because I ran into a few in other places, but the beer was ice-cold: just how we like it. I raised my can of XXXX to the Boxing Kangaroo on the wall, skulled it, and continued on my way exploring the city. A nice little find, but I think they could do our great country a little more justice food wise, they had a few of our national snacks - but I didn’t see any Vegemite. If they want to make me settle in and feel more homesick some chips with Chicken Salt and some other authentic food would definitely help. As a nation, we’ve come a long way from the “Walkabout Creek Hotel” - but as a tongue in cheek tip of the hat, it was a fun spot. If you’re lamenting the warm beer elsewhere, craving a cold one and something familiar from home, the Oz Bar will make you smile.
We sat in here while waiting for appointment bar manager served us was great we are from OZ and I was surprised that he had other country beer in tap. He was informative and helpful, left hubby there to drink Guinness!.
Amazing pub! Having made the move to Scotland from Australia, this pub became my local watering hole whilst in Edinburgh. It has classic Aussie beers and a lot of fun Aussie decor. Iain, the manager, is so lovely and always happy to help and chat. The staff there are also friendly. This is hands down one of my favourite pubs in Scotland.
This place was across the street from our BnB, and it was packed til 5am hahaha. The atmosphere was great and the servers were super friendly. I really liked sitting but the big windows or on the patio and having a drink along the cobblestone roads.
Awesome aussie bar! As an Australian it was a breath of fresh air coming here. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Also had a great selection of aussie beer and snacks.
Great little bar, and a good spot to grab some of your favourite Aussie beers
