Tundra Tavern isn’t just a bar—it’s an experience carved into the frost. Nestled where the land surrenders to snowdrift and stars, this cozy little outpost defies the cold with its roaring fire, warm company, and the kind of cocktails that make you believe in magic. The vibe? Think wood-paneled charm meets Arctic mystique. There’s a mounted caribou head above the bar (his name is Walter, and he’s seen things), fairy lights tangled with antlers, and the scent of smoked cedar in the air. Locals and wanderers huddle together over spiked hot chocolates and the house special: a glacial gin fizz so crisp it feels like fresh air in a glass. But the real secret? The stories. Strangers become fast friends over shared tales of Northern lights, blizzards braved, and loves found under the aurora. The bartender, Marnie, mixes drinks and wisdom in equal measure—part poet, part therapist, all heart. Come for the drinks, stay for the people, leave with a full heart and frozen eyelashes. Five twinkling stars. Would absolutely dogsled back.
Had the opportunity to eat here numerous times while awaiting a foggy flight this summer. Staff is very nice and helpful. Food was hot and tasty. They have additional food in the walk in cooler for sale that isn’t listed on the menu (take away frozen pizzas, juices, etc.) and the liquor store outside is reasonably priced for remote AK libations.
Cody and the crew are great. Very cool merch, too!! Must stop by if you ever find yourself in Adak.
The burgers and chicken sandwich were fresh and delicious w good fries or tots. Pizza is made with pride but get your order in right when they open or the wait can be long. They can only bake two pies at a time w ~20 min cycle time. It is worth the wait if you need pie.
Bar re-opened in September 2016 after being closed for two years. Beer is $8/can, soda is $2/can. Nice place with a flat screen TV, two pool tables and plenty of places to sit. Friendly people.
If you going to have drinks on the beach this is the best place to do it! Beachfront bar with no air conditioning but there's always a breeze blowing down in the sand or go for a dip in the water to cool off! I really enjoyed my time here can't wait to make another reservation! Next time I'm bringing my surfboard!
They recently started serving food back in 2019. Great place to get a hot meal and a drink. Larry keeps the place stocked with some Alaskan brand beer and some regular beers, along with some liquor. Free pool and two flat screens, and a stereo system for someone to play some music. I wish I could have been there this year but covid kept me away. For where it is and what it takes to get stuff out here, it is pretty awsome. Cheers to you Larry
Not a bad bar; found myself hanging out here for two out of my three nights on Adak. Prices are pretty much what you would expect for a bar in a remote place with $8 for a beer (as of May 2017), but the selection was surprisingly good ranging from average domestics, a few imports and craft beers. Friday seemed to be more of the locals night while Saturday brings in all the contractors on Adak clearing UXO left behind from the Navy days. I'd recommend though that if you are going to be here into the wee hours of the morning that you bring a light or something to find your way back home...it is pitch black in Adak at night!
