Shang Yuen

Service was quick (order ready when I walked in), friendly, and got me exactly what I wanted. Unlike some other Chinese restaurants, this food felt more real! The orange chicken actually had oranges, the cabbage in the egg roll was crunchy, etc. At these prices, with this service, this should be your destination for Chinese takeout in this part of Des Moines! I should also note that when they ran out of soup, they substituted me an extra order of egg rolls at no cost. Huge shout out to the cashier who both (a) remember the name of the guy in line after me and (b) talked with me while I waited for my order. Such small things totally enhance the customer experience!

Do you like lemon? Don’t get the lemon chicken. If you LOVE lemon with every fiber of your being and you just want a lemon squeezed straight into your mouth. GET THE LEMON CHICKEN. LOL it was good, but I wasn’t prepared to have lemon infiltrate my soul.

Super clean Chinese fast food restaurant. Ordered the sweet and sour pork and it was hot and fresh! Crispy on the outside too! Fried rice didn’t disappoint either. Will be back soon

Sad edit. The last few times we’ve ordered here the food is just not good. Overly salty, not fresh, just bad. Tried getting a refund and it wouldn’t let us. I’ll change my review when they hike up their food quality. We just love this place and we order a lot of Chinese food. The orange chicken, the tofu, the rice- it’s all the best we have in Des Moines

I picked up carryout from Shang Yuen yesterday and it was great. I called ahead and my food was ready in less than 10 minutes. (I would have tried the website ordering but it requires a login to order which is reasonable, I just didn't have time.) When I got there the counter service was excellent and the lady who helped me was happy to help me. I got Hot Braised Chicken (5 stars spicy) and it was perfect. The meat quality was good and not stringy. My food was still (temperature) hot when I sat down to eat. It had a ton of the entree and even came with 2 crab rangoons. I also got an order of crab rangoons and they were great too. I shared the crab rangoons with coworkers and they enjoyed them as well. I look forward to going back!

I love the spicy combo fried rice it's the best I have ever had. Im also a huge fan of the orange chicken. The meal size is good and you get a soup and side but know that the soup changes from egg drop to sweet and sour every day. Place is clean, food is good, staff is really nice.

Fast service and delicious food at a great price. We’ve done carry out a few times now and the food is always hot and tasty. The meals come with fried rice and two crab rangoons. They substituted an egg roll for the two crab rangoons on request this last time and I appreciated that. The servings are definitely worth the value, we can usually get dinner and lunch the next day out of them.

First time trying this place, Absolutely delicious! We ordered Sweet & Sour chicken-great flavor and breaded to perfection, peppers, onions and carrots perfectly cooked. Also ordered combination lo mein- wonderful flavor, alot of shrimp, chicken and beef. Side order of egg rolls- FABULOUS!! Each meal came with crab rangoons- ours has specks of filling so was disappointed about that. However, we will forsure be back. 5 Lady that took the order over the phone was very, very nice and polite. Great dinner prices as well.
