We had an amazing experience at Sonu BBQ Barbecue in Oceanside. The service was top-notch, and the manager was incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional, which really made us feel welcomed. The food options are very diverse, with fresh, high-quality ingredients and everything tasted delicious. You can really tell they care about the quality of their food. The best surprise was the dessert at the end — macarons! Such a nice and thoughtful touch to finish the meal. Overall, great food, great service, and great management. Highly recommended — we will definitely come back!
A great local spot for AYCE Korean BBQ with high-quality, not frozen meats which makes all the difference. We especially loved the pork belly wrapped enoki mushrooms and the cucumber kimchi from the generous spread of sides. Our server was fantastic (she had a flower in her hair wish I remembered her name!) and struck the perfect balance between attentive and chill. Drinks stayed full, grills stayed hot. Bonus: it’s right next to 85°C Bakery, so you can grab a sweet treat on your way out. We’ll definitely be back.
Sonu is me and my wife’s favorite spot because it has it is all: good meats, great banchan, great sides. I don’t need pay extra for a robot to deliver my food or to have disco lights while I eat. This place just feels so laid back in all the best ways. Special shout out to New Year, best server ever!! But don’t request to be in her section because it’s reserved for us..
Sonu BBQ has quickly become one of my favorite Korean BBQ spots, and every visit reminds me why. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels upbeat and welcoming, with that perfect mix of sizzling grills, good music, and people enjoying their food. The staff is always attentive and fast, constantly checking in to make sure the grill is taken care of and that you have everything you need. The meat quality at Sonu is genuinely impressive. Everything is fresh, well-marinated, and full of flavor. The brisket, bulgogi, and pork belly are always standouts, and they cook beautifully on the grill without drying out. Their banchan selection is also great — crisp, flavorful, and constantly refilled without you even having to ask. I love that the sides stay consistent: hot rice, fresh lettuce wraps, and all the pickled veggies you could want. For the value, Sonu BBQ really delivers. The prices are fair, and the portions are generous, especially for all-you-can-eat. It’s one of those spots where you definitely get your money’s worth. Whether you’re going with friends, family, or on a casual date, Sonu BBQ is always a reliable, delicious choice. Great food, great service, and a fun atmosphere — it never disappoints.
My wife and I went to SONU BBQ for my birthday yesterday. We have been there many times as it's the best AYCE Korean BBQ that we have been to. The food is always fresh and delicious. We always get the premium menu as there are selections that we like that are not on the regular menu. Our 2 servers yesterday were David and Nuyear, I hope I spelled her name correctly, they were extremely attentive to our needs, both courteous and friendly. But with that being said we have always had great service at SONU. If you do choose to try SONU, you will not regret it. ENJOY!!
Solid 4 stars. The food is really good. Best KBBQ until you get to Convoy and I used to eat often. However they charge $15 per kid over 40" tall, so about 4-5 years old. Not many kids that age eat $15 worth of food. At least get them some good, free ice cream. They also charge extra for uneaten food (which usually isn't a problem for our group). So it's really good if you don't have any kids but for families with small kids, it's disheartening.
SONU BAR B QUE was pretty good and not too. I just went there for my BIRTHDAY. We got the premium menu. It was pretty good actually. Some stuff was a Lil BLAND that's why it's a 4 star. The service was incredible. I'll definitely go back and try more stuff. I think I ate 4 lbs of meats. The appetizers were really good to. The atmosphere was very pleasing too.
Decent meat, but not all was good. I'd say it was ranging from okay to good. Good pricing though and delicious appetizers, would go again. The waitlist seemed odd, as we put our names in the system in person but people kept being added ahead of us. Weird with the yelp waitlists, I don't think they should do that.
