Angelo's Pizza

Moving reviews over from Yelp. This was originally published 5/11/18: It's been years since the last time I ate here but I found myself in Mattoon with over an hour to kill and an empty stomach. This is a relatively unassuming place in a relatively backwater town in eastern Illinois. Not really somewhere you wind up accidentally even though they are the home of Lender's Bagels. I ordered an 8" stuffed pizza with no intention of finishing it. I did make it through 3 of the 4 slices before giving up but that's really just because I had a meeting to attend followed by a 2.5 hours drive. Notes on the pie: They use a relatively under-seasoned tomato sauce that will appeal to the masses but requires the addition of garlic powder and red pepper flakes to suit my taste. Just ask and they will bring them to you. The sausage and onions were both well proportioned and of good quality. Their cheese is bountiful and delicious. There seems to be a hint of sweetness but I was unable to isolate which ingredient brought it to the party. The dough is just about perfect. Service was fast and friendly! Food was okay. Was fresh, but sauce wasn't anything special. Salad was heavy on lettuce, but was just lettuce and 2 small chunks of tomatoes.

Diane and I love Everything concerning ANGELO'S Bill Boyle,Mike Johnson,their wives,and All of their assistants are ,TOTALLY OUTSTANDING. THE FOOD IS NOT FANCY;BUT IT IS DELICIOUS!!. It is ,always,consistent in taste,presentation, and the Perfect temperature. Lasagna(meat or vegetarian) is the best when compared to Anyone else's!!! I like Both. The Carribean sandwich is Delicious and a quick meal at lunch or dinner. The Salads are ,always,fresh and Tasty. I do NOT like iceberg lettuce;but , I like their iceberg lettuce(fresh,crisp, and shredded). The staff is Attentive, courteous, and,they ,constantly, ensure that one's visit is remarkable from start to finish. Their prices are quite competitve; and,they,surely,beat any and all of the larger chains in ALL aspects. Thanks to All. Diane and Tony Nicholson

This is a delightful small restaurant offering a wide array of excellent choices. I personally found the pizza to be exceptionally good and very affordably priced. It is certainly a place one must experience. You will truly appreciate the charming small-town atmosphere here.

Haven’t been here since I was a kid with grandma for spaghetti night. It was just as lovely this time. Came on a Monday for the alfredo special. Great prices on a glass of wine. Had the pan pizza too with a couple of salads. The service was just the absolute best! Friendly faces & quick. Thanks Amy! The price was more than reasonable & the food was delicious. Will be back for lunch.

I was a stuffed pizza virgin and I had the stuffed supreme and OMG!!! It was the best pizza I have ever had since I've lived in Illinois for the past 28 yrs. Everyone praises Villa's and I wasn't all that impressed, but Angelo's is top notch! We have ours delivered and they are always prompt and courteous and also the breadsticks are really good get the marinara sauce its yummy!

In the area and decided to eat here for dinner. Staff was friendly and very professional. Restaurant was very clean and bright inside. Did not have to wait long for food after we ordered. The thin crust pizza tasted amazing. My daughter had the lasagna and she said it was very good. Will stop here again when I am in the area.

The food we ordered was good. I had the Italian Style Baked Tamale. It came with garlic bread that was cooked well. I enjoyed the pasta and the flavor. The seating is nice and comfortable. They offer Barside service.
