Found this spot just by chance and glad we did. Great experience with Anita at the bar. Atmosphere and character for this establishment.
Could this be the best example of a brown cafe? We got great advice on what to order. Order the Bols genever along with an Amstel. Want to be authentic? Slurp the filled-to-the-top genever without lifting the little glass. Hi, Annita.
I really loved it here. I loved the energy, the bar tender was so friendly and nice. From what he told me - he’s been doing this for 40 years - this is a very traditional Dutch place. Apparently it opened in 1624. You can still feel that vibe in the room. Half the room was taken up by locals who are apparently there almost every day. The bartender knew almost everyone by name.
It is as advertised, very old but the people and the bar tender was so amazing. Lots of regulars and good old beer and drinks. Not too pricey based on the rest of Amsterdam. If you’re there in Amsterdam you should drop in for 1 if you like to experience the old world charm.
A great cosy place to sit and have some beers with a friend. It’s small, so better to go with one or two people, but that is its charm. Great service - I don’t know how he does it!
Café Chris is everything we love in a brown café: cozy atmosphere, great beers, and a service that’s almost too friendly in the best way. Dog-friendly too, which automatically makes it a winner. You come for one drink, you stay for two (or more)!
It was a quiet midweek afternoon, so very quiet, but the welcome was warm and the beer tasty. It became busier later and had a nice buzz.
Great local bar, in a side street off the main drag. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Very atmospheric - wood panelled, cosy and with the feeling like not much has changed in the last half century. Excellent spot to stop for a drink.
