I’ve been coming to this pupusería for years and let me tell you, the quality of the pupusas is always on point. Their specialty, of course, are pupusas, which makes sense given the name Carmelina’s Pupusería. El ambiente? I won’t lie—it’s hit or miss depending on the day. It’s not always the most family-friendly spot, but honestly, if you don’t feel comfortable, just grab your food to-go. Like I said, if you’re all about the food and you’re just craving some delicious pupusas this is the place. Just the other day, my boyfriend and I stopped by. He wasn’t feeling great, so we ordered the sopa de gallina, and it was a solid 9 out of 10. It wasn’t just soup; traía gallina asada, arroz, ensalada y 2 tortillas. When it comes to the pupusas, the price is fair as well. The one comment I hear is they are so good wish they were bigger. To me they are great. I’ve read some of the reviews for this place, and I get where people are coming from, but this is a hole-in-the-wall, and if you know anything about those, you know they’re where you find the best food. This is authentic Salvadoran food, so if you’re craving that, this is your spot. One thing to keep in mind: they have a liquor license, so you’ll see some folks enjoying their drinks. But again, if the vibe isn’t for you, just take your food to go. If you don’t mind and are there for a good meal, I recommend the pupusas revueltas with a cola champán. Oh, and the tamarind juice is really good too!
The food is freshly made and delicious and kind staff
Overall, a solid experience. While the food quality fluctuates slightly, it reliably stays between a 4/5 and 5/5. The atmosphere and service are decent, but the real highlight here is the pupusas. I highly recommend the frijol con queso (beans and cheese) pupusas.
Great food, but long wait. The pupusas were excellent. I tried the cheese, pork, and cheese+beans pupusas. They were freshly made and contained a healthy amount of food inside them. The first thing I noticed was that they were not too salty (I don't like when food is too salty). The cheese was fresh melted cheese (not processed). The pork was not dry at all; it seemed like it was from pulled pork. The beans were of the refried variety. The restaurant does have a family feel to it. The food is very good, and very cheap! Overall, I would recommend this place.
LOVE their pupusas! My friends and I stop by this place 3 times after the beach. I think its a tradition now. The horchata is life! Can't wait to try their main dishes.
Food the pupusas was really good service too but the ambient need improve where is located needs more improvement but food was good
Great food, really cheap prices. No body make better Pupusas in Long Island
