Great vegetarian food and friendly staff! Must try - Butter Sauce Oyster Mushroom Something different - Fresh Vegetables Bibimbap in Jap Rice Something light & refresh - Cold Soba Noodles
Update 8 Nov 24 Brightened atmosphere now with new lighting. Food just as good. Staff seem happier too. Bought some snacks from the counter - the Pumpkin Cracker from Malaysia is superb $4 and the Monkey Head Mushroom floss from Taiwan $7 is good too (but I couldn’t see the use by date on the packaging) Update 2 Jan 24 Fantastic dinner with “fish”curry and “chicken” rice (they ran out of the chicken rice but we totally enjoyed the unpolished rice option!) There was a notice to seek support for price increase due to rental increase. The shop lease expires Nov 24. Support! Support!! I hope they will endure and stay on! Cash, nets and paylah accepted! Update 28 Aug 23 Monday 530pm. Called to order for self pick up. When I arrived after 10 min, it was ready!!! The food is still as reliable as ever. We had for $31.60: 1. fish curry is 5/5 looks fierce but not that spicy, just spicy enough! 2. Luo Han Zhai - think it’s the best 5/5. Vege is adequately crunchy yet cooked to soak jn the delicious sauce. 3. Olive fried rice - the rice was slightly lumpy and could be dryer. Paid by pay now on-site (other options: nets or cash) 2 years ago: Can’t believe I haven’t reviews this cafe! Probably cos I don’t want people crowding the already crowded space. These guys are simply great!!!! Super reliable in quality and can eat in Aircon comfort. But there is limited seating so if u are late u can wait. Very popular dishes which run out early - chicken rice, vegetable curry (all the curry dishes are popular!)
Good vegetarian dishes at reasonable prices. Enjoyed the Thai style mock fish ($20 for large), Kung pow Yamabushitake (monkeyhead mushroom) ($20 for large), four heavenly kings (petai beans, ladies fingers, brinjal, long beans) ($11 for regular), and sweet and sour mock pork ($11 for regular). The homemade lemongrass with ginger ($3.20) was good too.
Since is 初一 today so all other vegetarian is pretty packed. Initially we were at lotus cafe at rivercourt but there is no seats available and 1 hour wait so decide to came to kovan and try our luck. This cafe is pretty cramp and you need to source for your own seats before you place order at counter(nets and cash only) no paywave, grabpay all this. Can see and sense the operation was abit chaotic today but they still manage to serve the food pretty fast. We gotten claypot curry fish and luo han zhai. Food is pretty good and not very oily and salty.
TL;DR: Very nice vegetarian cafe i#at Kovan! Fresh hot food, nice vibes, nice staff. • Inside the mall level 2 • Accepts only cash (no credit, or Paynow) • Super friendly staff and fast service • Reasonable priced menu with tons of options • Freshly made food, served hot • Easy to get a table if you walk-in (depending on when you go, without reservation we went on a Sunday evening) • Food served on the table, no need to queue up Instagram profile - @life_is_food_adventure
The fried carrot cake (but made with yam cake) is tasty. The chwee kueh rice cake texture is JUST how I love it (firm enough to be picked up by a stick), but the chai poh, they only pickled turnip with lots of salt and no other seasoning or oil. Best to order some other dish with gravy and eat the rice cake with the gravy instead.
