Great place for tipical Yucatecan food. Has air conditioning and a solid menu. Things to take into consideration: tables are super crammed. Service is ok, and long lines to get in. Torta de cochinita was pretty good and the empanadas de queso bola too!
We stopped in at the Chaya Maya casona and absolutely loved the courtyard seating area. The service was great, our waiter was friendly and efficient. I really enjoyed the sopa de maya, it was creamy with a subtle spinach-like flavour. We also ordered there which included cochinita, queso relleno, pipian de pavo and Pavo en relleno negro. We weren’t fans of the queso relleno and probably would have preferred just ordering the cochinita as that was our favourite, although the relleno negro was also quite tasty. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Merida!
According to our Tourguide it's one of the most local restaurants in town. He really recommended it! The menu is in Spanish and Mayan but with lot of pictures so with some help from him we could order some delicious food there. I treated myself with a bunch of Panuchos. They were really tasty and the perfect mix. The staff was friendly and the location bit loud but not so we could talk in our group. I definitely recommend it!
Excellent service! The chaya with lime was interesting. Lime soup was nice, not too salty and was slightly sour. The fish in the seafood platter was quite bland, the octopus and shrimp were both great though. Also, the mole was superb!
We had a pleasant meal. The menu is meat heavy - turkey, pork, chicken - so we asked our waiter for veg recommendations. He was helpful but the choices were slim. We had a hot meal and enjoyed the experience
Definitely a place to go if you want to try authentic mayan food, i particularly liked the chaya cream soup, the rest wasnt my favorite when it comes to taste but it was very well made. Service is outstanding and the whole setting in the outside garden is fantastic
