Poplar House Inn — Quick Personal Review Poplar House Inn has a cozy, old-world charm that makes it feel more like a hidden gem than a typical hotel. The building itself has character, and staying there feels like stepping into a quieter, slower pace of life. Rooms are simple and comfortable, though not fancy or modern — it’s the kind of place you go for a relaxed, no-pretenses stay rather than luxury. The staff is welcoming and helpful, which adds to the overall friendly vibe. If you’re looking for a unique, laid-back place to rest your head and enjoy a bit of local atmosphere, Poplar House Inn hits the mark. A solid choice for travelers who appreciate charm over flash.

I have visited Poplar Inn 3x within the last two weeks. As advertised, they run daily specials in addition to weekly “chef” specials. We came in on Sunday, the bar was full for the Ravens game which was nice to see.. but we were able to find a spot. I believe Destiny and Dana were working in the first part of the bar where you walk in. They were pleasant and happy and gave the best food recommendations! They even gave out free shots for the touchdowns. We came in again on Tuesday and Dana was working and she again was the sweetest! She checked in on us regularly and did not let us do without. We came in last night for the burger special.. my partner and I. He got the burger and some draft beers… when we initially came in it was almost a shift change going on. There was another darker skin bartender that I haven’t seen before, she was loud, obnoxious and dropping glasses. At one point, I heard the bartender that waited on us tell her she didn’t need her help and to go ahead. The people next to me food never got put in, and I know the Destiny was super remorseful but 45 mins for a burger was a little disappointing. I gave 5 stars because aside from last nights fiasco, I genuinely enjoy the food and the atmosphere: the two bartenders I encountered love their job and genuinely have a love for people. We will be back to try the chicken noodle soup and the crème brûlée that destiny was raving about last night!

Five stars because the service and resolution of concerns was immediate and very satisfactory (3 guests with 3 different palates). Our waitress and the cashier/manager were very welcoming and made us feel valued. As an added bonus, the booth seating was very comfortable.

Kelly our bartender was informative, attentive and sweet. Her experience and professionalism is top notch. We ordered the lamb pops and crab cakes with a mussel and white wine appetizer and none of which disappointed. They were excellent in every sense of the word. I highly recommend this hidden gem of establishments.

Hubs & I had a late lunch, early dinner at The old Poplar Restaurant, now called The Place. They have recently improved everything! The restaurant decor is new, comfortable booths with a warm atmosphere; no more too loud music from the bar side; still has a private large group room that’s separate. Totally new excellent menu. Elaine was a familiar face, still the restaurant manager & will be there most afternoons. We will be going back as our food was fantastic! Thought I’d share. Decor, our food & menu below. — at The Place.

Came out to listen to the band Cinema, which totally rocked. There was a bonus, an acoustic set from Brandon Freelump with Alex G. Lee on guitar. Great atmosphere, great service, and good value. Also like if you did not want to hear the band, there was a second bar for just hanging out. I highly recommend it.

Everything that I have tried at Poplar since Chef Efrain took charge of the kitchen has been top tier. Never received a dish I haven’t enjoyed and cleaned my plate. My favorite by far is the turkey bowl special this month, it is amazing!! Dana is the sweetest and love when we get her as our server. She is so welcoming and customer service is great.

I floated the idea of having my mom’s birthday party here back in the summer, and we ended up hosting it just last week. The manager Kelly was more than happy to help — no matter the size of the party. They were super flexible, easy to work with, and great at communicating. They even help sculpt our requests with menu options and drinks. Coming from the food industry and making arrangements from out of town, it can be a gamble booking a place without seeing it first. The Poplar Inn exceeded all my expectations. It was spotless, welcoming, and set up beautifully. The food was also incredible. I recommend the burger and chicken Chesapeake. Manager Kelly and owner Ricky went above and beyond to make our experience feel special and personal, not just like “another booking.” I’d highly recommend this place for parties, gatherings, or even just dinner. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town and consider this spot for future bookings.
