We really enjoyed our breakfast. Dining here you experience a bit of Montreal history and enjoy traditional Quebecois cuisine. Home made goodness. Not fancy, just tasty honest generous food. The beans are a must!
An absolute Must Stop if you want to tary authentic Quebequois fare beyond poutine. Brightly painted yellow, seating is mostly a deli-counter style, with some tables here and there. Vintage photos and signs line the walls, reminding or teaching visitors of Montreal's past. We were invited to look around and then seat ourselves anywhere. Everything is made in house. My husband had the shepherd pie, and I had the Tartiere (beef and pork pie.) Ketchup was provided - a staple "seasoning" for both. We also had pea soup and a caramel pudding and coffee for dessert. It was good, solid, native comfort food, probably made exactly how the cooks' grandmothers made it. Not highly-seasoned, not special food with seasonal availability but filling meals to keep you going all day long. They also had a selection of pies and proper Canadian pork and beans to purchase and bring home. The friendly server talked with us a for a while in flawless English, and helped me with a little of my Quebequois pronunciation. When he discovered that we had a common interest, genealogy, he introduced me to a cook with the same family name as the one I was researching. Small world. Definitely would go back again.
How can a meal transport you back home? Ask this amazing man, who will diligently introduce you to every dish. Every bite feels like being at a family dining table, even if you’re from abroad. We had the Traditional Québec Meal, but do not skip the black sausages.
An institution and a must in Montreal. The interior design is like stepping into Quebec 50 years ago or more. And the traditional food is every bit as good and hearty as you would expect, with generous service to boot.
One of the must-try restaurants—it feels like a piece of Montreal and Quebec’s history and character, with a unique design and a special style in how the tables are set. A simple yet warm welcome, very friendly service, and incredibly healthy and light food. Above all, the high quality of the black coffee stands out. The waiter was very polite, professional, and delightful—unfortunately, I forgot to ask his name. Highly recommended!
Would definitely recommend! Great ambience, great service and high quality food! Everything's homemade and contains high quality ingredients (You can tell by the taste)!
This place serves real Quebec breakfast food, so if you are expecting fancy picture perfect food, don’t give them less stars bec it’s not that. Food was just as the menu described, and service was great. Place is clean and well decorated. We were a party of 4 and we were seated promptly. Didn’t feel rushed and the server was friendly.
excellent service. they really make you feel at home. I had egg in the hole. the beans (out of frame) were great!
