I was at Keesler for tech school when the 'new' triangle was being built back in 2000. We moved from the old WWII style barracks with 1 bathroom for 12 airmen into the new 'hotels', as we called them in the summer of 2000. Still 2 to a room, but we had our own bathroom, mini fridge, and microwave in the room (hence, 'hotels'). The Azalea was a banger back then and looks like it still is! Main line for dinner (tuna casserole was the banger back then believe it or not, lol). After the main line you could jump in the fast food line for a to-go order for later. Midnight rations on the weekends.. And dirt cheap back then.. Talking $1.10 for a cheeseburger and chili cheese fries.. After eating everything within 90 seconds back at Lackland, this was like heaven! INTO THE SUN!
To me this is one of the best DFACs you can go to while on a TDY. I was there for MTL school and have no complaints. Some of the class said that they had to pay a lot but it’s cause they got fish which is one of the more expensive things on the menu. I want to give a shout out to Ms. Bryant and Mrs. Mayfield, their customer service was amazing and they remembered me after just a short time of being at Keesler and ensured I was taken care of. Food was pretty good as well, just be advised it could be busy during the hours of business due to the tech school Airmen using this DFAC
This place reminds me of my grandma's cooking. In other words, kerosene heater When I think of soul food, this place always comes to mind. When I'm in the local area I always make it a point to stop in.
Staff are great. Service is excellent. Breakfast isn't the best. The food can be dry or hard and used as a weapon. It ain't home but I still prefer it over eating out.
This is a great place for Airmen (And Marines/Sailors) to go dine good food that is prepared everyday. The availability of this dining facility is great as well, since it is open every day of the week. They have a variety of food options like their fast food line, their sandwich line, and their main course line, which makes it very convenient for people trying something else rather than the same thing over and over again. Overall, 5 stars from me for this establishment.
After eating at BMT for 7.5 weeks this is a refreshing splash of taste! The burgers there are good, and I'm personally a big fan of their fries too. There are a lot of different options to choose from like chicken, salads, macaroni and cheese, cobbler, Burgers, cakes, banana splits, and pasta to name a few. They also have scheduled days for special entrees like "taco Tuesday". Overall, it is my personal opinion that this place is a great option
Great food, nice people, almost as good as home cooked meals. Plenty of tables to choose from for your group and great seating options. What's better, is the fact that they even have a bashroom as soon as you walk in, so you can get your hands washed before eating. I would highly recommend this place, if you are going to have friends or family come visit (as long as they allow it).
The Azalea Dining Facility is nice and clean. They have different varieties of food to choose from on a daily basis. I haven't eaten food from the main line in a while. Some of the items lack flavor. I wish that they would serve items that fit everyone on a daily. For instance, during breakfast, one day they may have Turkey bacon or chicken sausage, along with pork or beef. So that gives everyone a choice. Other times they will only have beef or pork and no choice of meat for those that don't eat beef or pork. I don't like that on the screen with the menu, it's not always accurate. So you're standing in like for what seems like forever, thinking that you're going to get one thing, and then you get up there and they're not even serving it. Very disappointing. I have noticed that recently, the lines for lunch and dinner are out the door. I don't know what can be done, but that turns people away. If the doors open at 11:30, how is the line out the door at 11:33??? I also don't understand why you can't get double portions if you're eating there, but if you get it to go, you can. If you're eating there you can just come back up. Idk, overall, it's nice. They could definitely improve on some things though. Of course it's way better than BMT.
