Old school chicken restaurant. Good food and decent service. Found on atlas obscura and enjoyed our visit.
I had visited the town of Hartsville several years ago and ate at Yogi Bear Honey Fried Chicken and just had to get it again while I was in town for Lower State Wrestling matches. I told the coach about how good the food was so he brought the whole team along with some parents to. We were not disappointed! It was just as good this time as it was last time. I highly recommend you try this treat. It's the last Yogi Bear Honey Fried Chicken restaurant in the country.
I had to fried chicken and french fries and both were pretty good period my wife had the catfish, coleslaw and baked beans.\nShe said the catfish and baked beans were delicious. The banana pudding was okay. If you go there, come with patients, because the food is so good.A lot of people come there to eat and it may take a moment for your food to come up , but the workers work hard and really fast to get your food
Most of their business is done through the drive thru, so inside service is a bit weak. Food is old school southern fried chicken plus some other comfort food. Worth the visit at least once because it is the only one left in the country, but every town in the South has a local small food stand that is as good or better without the novelty. Even the gas stations with a kitchen have chicken on par or better to sample.
I guess I should have gotten the fried chicken, but instead, I got gizzards. They were just OK. The fried corn was not good at all. I took one bite and ended up throwing the rest away because it had a real bad burnt taste to it. The Mash potatoes were like the kind you would get from a hospital cafeteria . The best part of my meal was the sweet tea.
My wife and I decided to take a little trip from Lake Wylie to eat here and it was worth it. Good prices and good food. We both got the 3 piece drumsticks meal and each got the battered fried corn while she got mac and cheese for her other side and I got green beans. All the food was delicious, the chicken was hot and crispy and that battered fried corn, shoot, that was right good let me tell ya! We also got a fried apple pie, man was it good too. Definitely some good eatin to be had here without needing to take out a second mortgage to pay for the meal.
The fried chicken was good. I would highly recommend it. My only issue were the sides they were pretty average and weren't really anything I would want to try again. The sweet tea was really good, though.
Service was mediocre. Front clerk did not expedite her orders at all. Waited 35 min because she forgot about our order. The chicken was great..the Mac n cheese was a box so boring.. don't even bother with the banana pudding.. is was banana pudding mix with a couple villa wafers on top.. solid pass..
