Used to eat here quite often growing up. Stopped by while visiting the area after moving away eight years ago, and forgot how amazing their food is. They gave great portions!

Excellent Chinese food, in comparison to other places around here. The woman taking orders and running the front was extremely friendly and kind. Would highly recommend.

Classic New England-style Chinese Food. We ordered early afternoon on New Year's Eve and the food was hot and ready in 25 minutes. Orange chicken was tangy and crispy, lo mein was flavorful and non-greasy, and rangoons were delicious. The pan fried dumplings were the standout and will be reordered again and again. Portions are huge- each entree is big enough to easily feed 4 with leftovers.

Very good food and a great value! Prices were excellent for the serving size. "Ridonculous" says my fiance. The orange chicken was like the grown up version of Panda Express', crispy and swimming in sauce. Staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Absolutely looking forward to coming back.

If you’ve ever stepped into a classic New England Chinese takeout spot, you already know the vibe — and China Star fits right in. The interior is exactly what you’d expect: familiar, no-nonsense, and comforting in that “we’ve all been here before” kind of way. The only twist? A massive retractable crane game that looks like it could pick up more than just stuffed animals. It’s the kind of thing that makes you pause and say, “Well, that’s different.” The woman at the register is genuinely friendly — not forced, just kind. You can almost see into the kitchen through the tiny pass-through window, which somehow makes it feel even more legit. No mystery about where your food is coming from — just a steady rhythm of takeout containers sliding through. Every time I visit my son nearby, I order the same combo plate. Why mess with perfection? You get two chicken wings, two chicken fingers, two beef teriyaki, two chicken teriyaki, boneless spare ribs, and a portion of chicken lo mein that is definitely not a “side.” It’s practically a full order on its own. I easily get two meals out of it every time. That’s not a complaint — that’s a strategy. We also ordered scallion pancakes. Now let’s be honest: most places use frozen ones. We all know it. But for whatever reason, these came out super crispy and not greasy at all. That alone deserves recognition. Crispy without the oil slick? That’s a win. If you’re in Windham and you’re craving classic Chinese takeout — the dependable, satisfying, generous kind — this is your spot. No frills, no reinvention of the wheel. Just solid portions, crispy scallion pancakes, and a combo plate that feeds you twice. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

I don’t normally write reviews, because I’m pretty picky about where I eat, but when i saw how many great reviews there were, I figured this place couldn’t be bad. The reviews were spot on. As a native New Yorker, used to great Chinese food, but having lived in Arizona for over 20 years where we don’t have great Chinese food, I was bowled over by how good this place was. To start with, I way over ordered because I wanted to try a few items. here was my order… fried dumplings, Egg Rolls, Subgum Wonton soup, boneless spare ribs, and a combo dish, can’t recall it’s name but it was shrimp and vegetables on one side, and orange chicken on the other side. The restaurant itself is a dump… it’s a dive, very uninviting. It looks as if before the pandemic people ate there, but now, there’s maybe 2 tables on one side, and one table on the other side of the building. The employees are all behind a plexiglass barrier and you have to order through a speaker… here’s a tip, order ahead. I had to wait 20 minutes, but it was worth it. As i sat there and watched customer after customer come in, i realized i should have called ahead, oh well. My food was ready, and it was packed so well. Cardboard divider between my soup, the spare ribs were packed well with a plastic bag around it to prevent spilling. Well, let’s start with the start of the show… the egg rolls. They were big, crunchy, and tasty. I have not had an egg roll like that since i lived in New York. The dumplings, wow…meaty and tasty, with the sauce on the side. The crab Rangoon were good, the spare ribs, very tasty deep red but no bones, can’t complain about it. About the only complaint, if there was one, was the shrimp in the subgum wonton were on the smaller size, and typically when I’ve had war wonton/subgum wonton, they use larger shrimp, but the taste was fantastic. We’ve been in the lakes area since June, and only found this place yesterday. We’re heading home Tuesday so the only bad thing is that we may not be able to try again before we head home. I think if you love Chinese food, and looking for a good place to go, if you judge by my experience you cannot go wrong trying China Taste.
