I town for a meeting ~ looked for pizza that wasn't a chain. Our pizza was wonderful. Had the ultimate cheese pizza and added sausage and mushroom. Server was very nice and pleasant. We will ride back when it warms out.
Had been planning to eat here for a while, and now I wish I hadn't waited so long. Ordered Cheese Sticks and Garlic Cheese Bread as appetizers and they came out looking like perfection. I couldn't even snap a photo, as they were devoured before the thought came. The marinara for the GCB was what you'd imagine the guys in the movie Goodfellas to drool over. I ordered a hamburger horseshoe as my main course. The burgers under the cheese and fries was cooked to perfection and even had a charred crust which was perfect. The straight fries were absolutely delicious and the cheese sauce was better than most that I have tried. The cheese was a beer cheese but you couldn't taste the beer, and there was a slight heat/spicy which was amazing. This was my first visit but it definitely will not be my last. Next time, due to the superb quality of the sauce, I am going to have to try the sourdough pizza.
Staff was really nice and friendly. Decor was simple and comfortable We had to wait a while to place order because of how busy it was Pizza was my favorite Crispy thin, not too much pizza sauce, which I love very fresh ingredients. The chicken Alfredo was amazing. The chicken was juicy not dry. Just the right amount of cheese. most definitely will return
First time visit. Waitress was a little busy but handled it well. very polite for Springfield area, a nice change. Seating for many people available with a group area. Food was fast and amazing. I had spaghetti with meat sauce. Comes with a salad and two bread sticks.
Very Good!!! Great atmosphere, little kids arcade cabinet (got the high score on dig dug see if you can beat it) Pizza was fantastic ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Decently priced
I was there for a quick lunch. The waitress helped me to expedite my departure. I had the thin crust pizza which was very good. The table was not as clean as one might hope. Granted, I did show up at lunch time. I will be back.
Sat Jan 17th had a blast with my girl and a couple friends we will call this a winner
Bernie and Betty's Pizza in Springfield, IL is the very definition of a "neighborhood joint." It is nestled within a neighborhood and looks like it belongs in any neighborhood. The exterior looks exactly as you would expect and the interior is a mix of original and some updated design. The Food: We went for a late afternoon lunch with 8 family members after an event in Springfield. We ordered a large thin crust pepperoni, a "thick" sourdough large pizza with pepperoni, fries, salads, and a poor boy along with a Hawaiian pizza. The thin crust was the favorite. It had a little bit of a cornmeal crust and an excellent, robust flavor. The sauce was not sweet, but not too savory either - perfect. Plenty of cheese and sauce and the crust was crispy and thin. Excellent. The thick sourdough crust was also good. It was a little bit "soggier" and not as crispy as the thin, but that is typical for any thicker crust. There was plenty of cheese, plenty of pepperoni, and a great flavor. The fries were hot, crisp, and flavorful. They were not the best fries I've ever had, but were in the top 20%. The poorboy was also excellent. The salads were nothing special, but good. Price was fair and we had plenty of food -- and some to take home -- for just around $100 including a tip. The service was good, but we did sit in the restaurant for about 5-10 minutes before anyone greeted us. It was a slow time of day and a larger crowd had left just as we were entering. Once we were waited on things were great. Bernie and Betty's is charming, with excellent pizza, fair prices, and a cool neighborhood atmosphere. I would recommend visiting Bernie and Betty's over the chain or more well known Springfield restaurants.
