We come here whenever we visit the Otago Peninsular - so much to see and do on a day trip any day of the year. We enjoy the 1908 decor and relaxed atmosphere: open flames in the fireplace, filtered light, warm wood hues, echoes of more genteel eras. We're here to relax and 1908 does that for us so we are much more tolerant of the imperfections in food and service.
An historic building, beautiful food and friendly, professional service, we really enjoyed our visit here. They were very accommodating when we requested a slight tweak to a dessert (could we add butterscotch sauce to the chocolate fondant, and yes they could, and man it was amazing!).
Nice quaint restaurant, great for a stopover meal between the Royal Albatross Centre and Dunedin/Larnach Castle. The food was tasty, price was reasonable and service was nice and prompt.
Good food, honestly prepared. It is about a 20 minute drive outside of Dunedin cbd in Portobello. A lovely view of the bay. There is outdoor seating for warmer days. A great place for lunch or dinner. A very impressive wine list, also well catered for beer drinkers.
Service and atmosphere were exactly what to expect from a historic restaurant like 1908. The vibe was on point. The food was beautifully presented with the callouts being the slaw and pure on the pork dish, the chips(fries), the mushroom croquettes and the sticky toffee pudding.
Friendly staffs with great views, the restaurant make their own foods even dessert. I was surprised they provided delicious foods with fair price. Good vibes, I will get back there in the night time very soon.
Love the food, had a delicious beef burger for lunch. Should have added an extra patty. Lovely quiet lunch place. Great service as the staff was accommodating to our request for room temperature water and unsalted chips.
Great food in a wonderful setting! We arrived here shortly before closing time, on our way back from penguin viewing, and we were graciously served fantastic meals. The lamb was delicious, and I loved that they served Craggy Range wines!
