My kid will tell you that he loved loved loved the chocolate chip pancakes. The food was so good. I had a hot sandwich with the burger - the meat tasted so fresh and good. The turkey rice soup was so delicious and nice to have rather than fries. My spouse got the open-faced western sandwich. Beautiful little spot to stop on the way to Edmonton.

Well this is not the review I would want to post regarding an institution like Phil’s. Even though I have not been long here in Red Deer, I have eaten here at Phil’s a number of occasions and enjoyed the experience, food, service and atmosphere very much. This morning though they dropped the ball regarding their steak and eggs. A breakfast I have had 3 times in the past, this morning being the 4th. They cook their steaks to order, how you like them, mine being medium-rare and it’s being done each time in the past to my liking, perfect How ever this morning my steak was cooked medium and very chewy so after 2-3 small bits, I spoke to the waitress about the steak and as you would expect it was no problem to have it changed, she went to the kitchen to order a new steak she had also agreed it was not a m-r cooked steak I got a new plate of food, cut the steak more or less in half and it was medium again, just a thin line of red to be seen, but this one was not chewy, I had cut a small piece to try it. It was disappointing, the waitress again agreed it was medium and not m-r and asked if it was chewy, but she was taking very loud at this stage and was starting to make me feel uncomfortable as she was taking to me at one point from a distance and I could see other customers starting to take an interest in what was going on I had to ask her to come over to my table and talk, at a booth across from me a customer ordered a steak and my waitress made it quite clear they where having an issue with the steak making reference to me saying that gentleman had two steaks that were not to his liking! Seriously!? That was not cool. The other customer did go for the steak, medium he ordered and when asked, he said it was fine, that’s okay because the chef had the medium steaks dialed in this morning. I decided not to eat the steak but finished the eggs, toast and chunky fried potatoes, which was all good as was expected, fresh and tasty. They didn’t offer not to charge me for the steak as I didn’t eat it but when I asked they said they would give me 15% off, not much, but still better than a poke in the eye! Just to be clear, this is not about being an ass, but rather to bring to attention the issue I had with the steak and hopefully they will be able to address the issue and as customers we should never feel we can’t speak up and end up paying for something that is not to the standard set by the restaurant or what is expected. My waitress could possibly learn to be a bit more low key when dealing with a customers food issue by not talking so loud and letting all the customers around hear what’s going on, I certainly didn’t want to draw anyones attention other than my server and I certainly wasn’t raising my voice or being disrespectful, it was a little uncomfortable, I would have preferred to not have had the issue in the first place and had been able to eat and enjoy my steak I will be back at Phil’s because they have overall delivered a great eating experience each time I have been here, mistakes are made by us all. The 4 stars over all reflects my experience while the 3 stars for service would be for how my server made me feel after being to her attention my issue.

Great food and even better service. I highly recommend asking them nicely to fully load the shredded hash browns. You will not be disappointed!

Breakfast of warm apple & cinnamon crepes was excellent and made me cry. Here's why. I wanted to treat myself to breakfast because that's my favorite meal. When I saw crepes on the menu, I was sold. My waitress was sweet and efficient. When she brought the water, she took my order; no waiting. My crepes and two over-medium eggs were perfectly cooked. When it was time to leave, I told the waitress how yummy my meal was and how my mom used to make crepes for us. Then without bidding, I burst into tears. Mom passed away in 2021 and this breakfast brought back all the wonderful memories of her pfannenkuchen und Apfelmus (low German for flat pancakes with applesauce). The service, food, cleanliness, and atmosphere were all great! My waitress even put a senior discount on my bill and I didn't have to ask. Highly recommend.

The Red Deer Phil's is quite popular (evidenced by the fact I got to circle the restaurant at least once to nab a place to park...), and when my order arrived I understood why... THANK YOU, Nicola, for suggesting I get 3 Cranberry white chocolate pancakes instead of just the 1 extra (same cost for the upgrade) - they were DELICIOUS!!!

Been coming here for over a decade absolutely love the breakfast. Even when it's busy they work hard to get everyone in to be able to eat. Would highly recommend.
