The waiting time is very long during the weekend - it took us 30-40 minutes to get the first batch of our food... We liked the green beans, savory soy milk and crispy chicken, but some other dishes were just okay (the beef in the bread was a bit too salty, and the chive box was slightly too oily for me). Overall, it’s still a nice brunch/lunch place, but just plan your trip in advance to avoid the crowd!
I got stinky tofu and beancurd soup with peanut, yotiao, etc. they are really good price, but the food is not that good. The tofu is not stinky, not fermented, just regular deep fried tofu with sweet and spicy sauce on raw cabbage. The tofu flower is like jello, not really good either. It’s cheap enough so just grabbing a bite is fine. Oh yotiao is good guess you’re, at least! But the pig ears is really good, I would just get the small premade dishes and soymilk and yotiao next time!
Have been here for breakfast during weekend a couple times. Love the cold dishes, very flavorful and authentic Chinese taste. Also always order the beef noodle soup and the fried dough stick with soy milk. The downside is that sometimes the food quality seems varies. Sometime food tasted like it’s been there for a while. But it’s still a good Chinese breakfast place in Chicago area.
I really enjoyed the fried bread crueller thing with fresh soy milky. The beef stew was also really good, same with the rice ball. I tried to be adventurous and tried the stinky tofu and it was nitty my cup of tea. Friends liked it though. I'd go back.
Been coming here for the past 2 years and this spot always hit , I got the orange chicken yesterday and man was it not only fresh , you had nice chunks of chicken thighs in a crunchy crust with nice orange sauce that had freshly cut garlic in it. I also tried the pork rice ball which was also good. I wi honestly say this is the best lunch special in the area , it reminds me of the old school Chinese spots that give everything at a reasonable price and considering the lunch special is less than $10, this place has kept me as a regular. The lunch special includes meal , egg roll and a drink , I personally like the soybean milk.
If you like traditional Taiwanese breakfast food like fried bread stick, sweet or salted bean milk, flapjack with beef, seafood congee or fried pork dumplings. However I think the traditional Taiwanese breakfast is only offered on the weekends, call them to double check. I got the fried pork chops to go, I was disappointed on how little pork chops is in an order. I feel like it was half order size v
Loved it! Everything is freshly made. The pork vegetable bun is AMAZING! The wonton soup is flavorful. The leek pocket is good, but could use more fillings (too much dough). The meat flapjack has little meat and too much dough, the ratio is off, even though the flavor is still good. The bitter melon fish stir fly is very good! People are very friendly! Highly recommend!
This Chinese restaurant has been a favorite of my husband’s since his PhD days—he used to drive two hours just to eat here, mostly for their beef noodles. Even after we moved, no matter where we stay in Chicago, we’ll go out of our way just to have a bowl. Their noodles are truly worth savoring again and again. This time we ordered beef noodles and fried noodles, and both were delicious. We usually like to order a bowl of noodles and add extra beef separately—it’s simply amazing! The only downside is that the dining environment is quite average.
