I've visited a handful of times for lunch and dinner with friends. Every time I've eaten here the food is great. Overall everything I've tried has been delicious. Some of the highlights are their French toast and HK style milk tea. The pineapple bun with butter is good too, it usually comes out warm and nicely toasted which helps melt the slab of butter into the bread. Service is ok, can be more consistent but nothing terrible. It's a casual eatery, don't expect service to be amazing and you won't be disappointed.

Mahjong Cafe & Bar is a Hong Kong style restaurant. It attempts to encapsulate the classic HK taste and atmosphere. From the decor to the food, they’ve certainly nailed it! As for the food and drink, their HK style milk tea is very good and authentic. It’s accurately prepped and brewed (using the proper, traditional filter and strainer). Their Chicken Steak with Black Pepper Sauce over Spaghetti is also very good. The thick sauce has just the right amount of spiciness, and the chicken steaks are very tender. Overall, it stays true to the HK spirit especially when you order the classic dishes and drinks!

Cash only - make sure you have enough before go in Budgeted breakfast options similar to Hong Kong style options. The real kicker is their milk tea which is very similar to Hong Kong if you know, you know. Quick with food and amazing restaurants design

Food are tasty! Have been here for a few times. I personally like the eggplant fry rice noodle (茄子炆米) It is not in the menu but they do it upon request. As I am a vegetarian, I just told them to remove the meat and add eggplant. The pumpkin soup are super nice too. Probably the best I have ever had in Flushing. 冰火菠蘿油 is very yummy too. Should eat it while it’s still warm and soft. The restaurant is highly recommended.

The Asian Equivalent to Comfort eating at diners. You really go here to experience a bit of slow life or a quick bite to eat. It's a diner just Hong Kong style! For people familiar it has some standouts like the braised pork or their rice dishes. Some of the classics are the HK Tea for 4.50 which is a great price. Not the best tea but not the worst either. I really recommend the braise pork with spaghetti, it was really tasty and filling. The Classic HK toast could be better, but I wouldn't get it unless you craved it. Service is normal, nothing outstanding but it is quick. Quality is above average for some dishes as a diner has an expansive menu. Decor is mahjong themed and it's cute but you can tell it has that bar functionality. Decent pick for some quick bites or a trip to memory lane with the food.

Update [2024]: After undergoing changes and merging with another Hong Kong café, the place has drastically improved. What was once a 3.5 star HK café, I would now give it a 4.25. The quality of the food has improved, with the prices all in great ranges. The place is sometimes crowded, especially in the morning, although that is the best time to come! The only issue is that the café still only has 1 bathroom, so you may have to wait or hold it in for a bit. [2023]: In all honestly, this café is more of 3.5 stars, but you can't give half a star. The café itself was quite neat and casual. It was not crowded, although that could be due to my own timing. Some of the foods are mediocre, while some were top notched. The foods themselves are not that unique as this is a Hong Kong styled café, so most of the foods can be found in other Hong Kong styled café. The price is a bit expensive, but it is somewhat fair. The only issue I have is the bathroom. Sadly, this café only has 1 bathroom. So, unless you wait or rush in right after someone, you may need to hold it in for a bit.

A little piece of Hong Kong in the middle of Flushing Queens. I stumbled upon the Mahjong Cafe today which got my curiosity up enough to try. The exterior is really blah when you look at it but once you step inside it’s pretty cool (see photos). I only tried the wonton noodle soup (take away) which is really good. The soup is sweet, the noodles were cooked right and the wontons were excellent!

After the traumatic experience at Mabu I become skeptical about fancy HK cafes, but Mahjong is an exception. They offer fast service, comfortable seatings, and meals at adequate prices. The servers told us that all the dishes were approved by their Hongkonger boss, which explained why their food taste authentic! * Singaporean Pan Fried Rice Vermicelli 星洲炒米*** * Vegetarian Pan Fried Noodles 羅漢齋炒麵 Their pan fried noodles are endowed with “wok hei”, yet less salty and less oily compared to the ones from other HK cafes. The portion is so big that one noodle dish can feed a small family. * Curry Squid & Fishballs 咖喱魚蛋魷魚*** Bouncy fishballs and chewy squid. The curry sauce was incredibly flavorful but not spicy. You can still enjoy this classic HK street food even if your spice tolerance is low. * HK Style French Toast 奶醬西多士 Look how tall this french toast was! It was composed of three layers of fluffy toast. We mistakenly ordered it with condensed milk fillings. It would taste even better with peanut butter. * Egg Sandwich 雞蛋三明治 I seldom order egg sandwich because I can simply make one at home. But the thickness and fluffiness of their fried egg makes it stand out from an ordinary egg sandwich. * HK Style Milk Tea 港式絲襪奶茶*** I will rank their milk tea as the best in Queens, while S Wan Cafe in Chinatown and Xin Fa in Brooklyn still top the chart. It has a rich and creamy texture from the Ceylon tea and balances well with the evaporated milk.
