Outstanding experience. We came in with huge appetites and got the charcuterie board, escargot and bone marrow, braised beef cheek, and confit duck! All delicious. Our server, Nicholas, provided amazing service. It was incredibly crowed for a Wednesday night and he moved seamlessly, remembering every order, maintained such positive interactions with everyone, and checked in on us frequently. To accommodate walk-ins while it was so busy, the hostess and manager placed us in a gorgeous lobby to order cocktails and wait for a table to open up. That was a really good experience.
The design and the layout of the restaurant is modern and classy that also contrasts with the old-aged stones on the wall. The food was really great - we ordered Confit duck, onion soup, grilled octopus, and mussels. Great flavors and presentation. Our waitress, Marie, was very friendly with fast service - she knew her food items on the menu and gave some great recommendations. I would go back again!
Gorgeous building and old decor perfectly located in the old Montreal. We made reservations for that Friday night, which was good as it got really busy quickly. We were seated without delay, it was nice and quiet when we first got there as there were few tables taken. It was a very different story about one hour later. We could hardly hear each other talk. Perhaps partly due to the low ceilings, the very close proximity of the tables, or the fact that we had a large table of at least 10 beside us. We truly enjoyed our meals, they were tasty. We started the meal with their Fromages & Charcuterie Board. The cheeses were delicious! It was a perfect size to share between three people. We followed with Steak de Chou-Fleur, Burger de Boeuf, and the Steak. Our waiter was bilingual which was nice as one of us didn’t speak French. It can be challenging finding parking near by, there are a number of paying lots in the area though, some more expensive than others. Read the reviews first!! Most are also not very big, if you come during busy times, you may have to park a good 15-20 minute walk away which is not too bad as Old Montreal is gorgeous to walk through in good weather.
Gaspar was one of the few restaurants open on Christmas Day and I’m so glad I got to try it. I ordered some of their classic French-Canadian dishes and my favorite was the beef cheek because of how tender it was. It also paired perfectly with the saffron risotto. The foie gras and duck confit were also good but I’ve had better. What really impressed me was the service. Shoutout to our waiter Nicholas! He was super nice and friendly, checking on us throughout the night while juggling multiple tables on a busy Christmas. They also rotate the menu so I would come back to try their new items! Foie gras terrine 7/10 Bison tartare 6/10 - This would’ve been better if it wasn’t mixed with something like crunchy black rice. Whatever it was, it kept getting stuck in my teeth. Confit duck 7/10 Braised beef cheek 8/10
Such a great find. First of all the service was very professional and friendly. The vibe was lively and fun. No one had a bad meal but the stars were the bone marrow/escargot appetizer, moule frites and the duck. Definitely worth a visit
Luxury experience for Christmas Day. Our waiter was Nicholas and he was great, honestly best service ever. He was extremely attentive, answered all of our questions, and made sure we didn’t wait for anything. The food came out very fast and all the dishes were delicious. We ordered duck confit, bone marrow snail, and bison tartare. Highly recommend coming here!
Beautiful place! Five-star service and very friendly staff. The food was delicious, though it arrived warm rather than hot. We mentioned it to the waitress, and the manager immediately offered us three complimentary desserts! It’s rare to see this kind of gesture in Montreal, and we really appreciated it.
2nd time to Montreal and 2nd time here (even with all the food options !). No regrets! Wonderful dining experience every time we've eaten here. Taken care of well by the staff and enjoyed the lamb and every entree greatly! Highly recommend eating at Gaspar!
