We made a verbal reservation the night before and they remember. We arrived at 8pm on a Sunday evening in November and sat in the back part that look more like the caves in the surroundings.. By 9pm every table was full. The servers had a great and very busy but efficient system. We shared aracinni. I had the cod in delicious broth and my husband had the pizza, which we said was amazing. We shared a bottle of local wine. All wonderful. Maybe a smile from a server or host would have been nice but we get that they were all very busy and my italian (i am practicing) was likely annoying. Lovely setting and very lively.
Truthfully, hands down the best Italian food we have ever had. There is no words to describe how hospitable the wait staff is and how tremendous the food is. Make sure you make a reservation it is in high demand. The owner is a gentleman and a service/experience oriented individual who pays attention to details.
We were for for our holidays with my family and was amazing, for starters was the burrata and was really big and the bread was also really good. After we ate the ravioli and the pizza for my son and both were very good
This restaurant was recommended to us by the host where we were staying. The quality of the food was very nice, the portions though for the price was really disappointing. My octopus as a main was very small. The staff are busy so the service is very rushed. We did make reservations as its not a very big restaurant & after 8:30 it starts to get busy. It was challenging to find our way there with Google maps so we did arrive 30mins late however they were okay with it. Nice food just small servings.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Osteria al Casale was the absolute highlight of our time in Matera. Every single dish was outstanding — full of flavor, beautifully presented, and perfectly executed. Fabio made the experience even more special. His wine recommendation was spot on, and in 7 years with my partner, I’ve never seen her completely satisfied with a waiter’s first suggestion… until now. That says it all. Exceptional food, flawless service, unforgettable evening. Highly recommended.
We ate at Al Casale our last night in Matera. It was recommended by our hotel, and it was a great recommendation. The food and service were excellent. They have a wonderful wine list with knowledgeable servers who helped us pick a very good local wine. We started with the beef carpaccio, then shared the truffle raviolis, and finished sharing the veal cheeks. A friend once told me that if “cheeks” of any kind are ever on the menu, order it. We have always heeded this advice. The veal cheeks amazing, as were all our dishes. This place is amazing! When in Matera, I would highly recommend both Al Casale and La Talpa. Enjoy!!
This restaurant was recommended to us by the hotel where we were staying. The quality of the food was good, portions of a good size but a pricing a little high. Staff and service rushed in a full restaurant.
Easy one of the best dinners we had in Matera. First off, the place is beautiful, make a reservation to ensure you get a spot on the terrace, as the view is lovely. The food is delicious and the portions are quite big, so you get value for your money. We particularly loved the potato pie (this was the best part), the arancini and the pasta. The tiramisu wasn't the best, you can probably skip it. The service was good, not over the top friendly but quick and efficient. They can definitely work a bit on the music, which at times doesn't suit the atmosphere. All in all, it's a lovely place for a nice, romantic and really delicious dinner in Matera :)
