Kazunori: The Original Hand Roll Bar Photos

Description Kazunori: The Original Hand Roll Bar

KazuNori: The Original Hand Roll Bar at 421 Main St in Downtown Los Angeles focuses on freshly made Japanese temaki, served seconds after preparation so the nori stays crisp around warm, lightly seasoned rice and pristine seafood. The current Los Angeles counter menu centers on 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-hand-roll sets, alongside sashimi and individual rolls featuring toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, lobster, albacore, eel, cucumber, and yamaimo.

Set menus currently run from about $16 to $30, offering strong value for carefully sourced fish, specialty seaweed, house-made sauces, and made-to-order preparation. The six-roll set is especially appealing for diners wanting the fullest introduction to the menu, while toro, crab, lobster, and bay scallop are standout choices. Drinks include green tea, soft drinks, water, beer, sake, and non-alcoholic selections depending on availability. Vegetarian diners have cucumber and yamaimo options, although the menu is primarily seafood-focused. Gluten-sensitive guests should note that the house soy and ponzu sauces contain gluten and cross-contact is possible.

KazuNori works particularly well for a quick lunch, casual dinner, solo meal, or intimate outing. Breakfast is not offered, and the counter-style format is better suited to small parties than large groups.

Menu Highlights

6-Hand Roll Set - $29
A generous progression of toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster combines buttery, sweet, creamy, and delicate textures. It is one of the best choices for experiencing the restaurant’s signature range.

Toro Hand Roll
Rich, buttery tuna belly contrasts beautifully with warm rice and exceptionally crisp nori. Its luxurious texture makes it one of KazuNori’s defining hand rolls.

Bay Scallop Hand Roll
Tender scallops deliver gentle sweetness and a creamy texture wrapped in crunchy seaweed. The contrast between cool seafood and warm rice makes this roll especially satisfying.

Crab Hand Roll
Sweet, delicate crab is prepared to emphasize its naturally soft, savory character. It is approachable yet distinctive and appears througho

Fast paced and casual with counter seating that keeps things lively. Hand rolls are fresh, crisp, and meant to be eaten immediately. Staff moves quickly and keeps lines flowing, making it ideal for a quick, satisfying bite. Portions felt fair for the price, my favorite is the Toro roll

Incredible, I highly recommend. The best hand rolls I've ever had, I crave the food here. If you do not like seafood or hand rolls this place is not for you. Ingredients are fresh, with warm rice and made in front of you. Seated at U shaped bar style table with chefs and servers in the center. Rolls are made and delivered overtime, not all at once. You choose your meal via a paper menu, from set menus of 3 - 6 rolls but all rolls can be added a la carte. Service is quick and friendly. There are a few locations, lucky me, so the parking and wait time vary at each. All locations are usually busy but service is quick which supports a timely turnaround. The one downtown (main) has limited street parking, the one in Ktown is probably my favorite and has a small parking lot but fills quickly. Buon Appetito, Piatto Pulito

Great hand rolls, very basic but they really have their system set up well. Crunchy seaweed, hot rice, and great fish (the Toro is fantastic and the yellowtail is also not bad). Will return when in LA

This is the ultimate hand roll sushi joint in DTLA. Cold beer and sushi are a great combo! If you go on an odd hour you can get in right away, but if you go during peak hours be prepared to wait. It is WORTH the wait!

Fresh, flavorful sushi and incredibly friendly service! Every roll was beautifully made and full of clean, vibrant flavors. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is attentive, and the prices are fair for the quality. Easily one of my new favorite sushi spots!
