My wife and I finished our tour of the Brushy Mountain Prison with lunch at The Wardens Table. Good food interesting atmosphere, a Prison. Nothing fancy good selection of meals and sides. BBQ style food, quiet place you can see the kitchen. Cheap beer at least from where I live.
Great location and atmosphere. Really friendly and efficient staff. The food is equivalent to gas station food. Burgers were grey in color with no flavor. Nachos were a large portion but the pork was stringy like it came from a can or a bag. Light sprinkle of jalapeño and tomatoes slathered in nacho cheese and sweet bbq sauce.
We stopped in for lunch in the middle of a solid day of riding the trails. The food was a little pricy but good. A lot of our crew enjoyed the tasting and bought tickets for the Penetentary tour.
Outstanding, fun atmosphere. Very well decorated. The pulled pork was only average. The sauce was good as well but average as well. Was slightly put off by staff in the kitchen and food prep areas. No beard nets, no hair nets, and one employee was observed eating over food he was preparing. I know he saw me catch him as he shot me a dirty look. Still a very fun place to visit!!
This restaurant was great. We toured the penitentiary and took our guides, George, advice on where to eat. He said you can’t go wrong with the on-site restaurant. He said 40 years ago he would never believe he’d be eating mouth watering smoked meat on this property and he was right. The meat was delicious, and the sides were great. Don’t sleep on this restaurant. If you’re touring Frozen Head or the penitentiary, stop by.
We had the wings and were surprised at how sweet they were. The loaded pulled pork nachos were excellent. The ribs were falling off the bone tender and had good flavor but unfortunately the BBQ sauce tasted like sweet baby rays and the hot sauce seemed to be Louisiana style hot sauce. We do wish others would have been with us so we could have tried more dishes. If in the area we will swing by again.
The Warden’s Table is a fantastic spot to grab lunch, especially after touring the museum nearby. The Killer Potato definitely lived up to its name — absolutely loaded and bursting with flavor. It was hearty, satisfying, and honestly, worth the trip on its own. I also tried the pulled pork plate with slaw, and it was just as impressive — tender, smoky, and packed with that classic BBQ goodness. The slaw added a perfect crunch and balance. The vibe is laid-back and welcoming, making it a great place to relax and refuel. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it — this place knows how to serve up serious flavor!
We stopped by the Warden's table after touring the old prison. We tried a variety of the food items and had a great time. I especially liked the Smoked Brisket and would definitely have it again if I'm in the area.
