Easily one of the best French restaurant we have visited. It's located right at downtown Montreal, only 5 minutes drive from most hotel in the area. The oysters were fresh and packed with flavour. The baguette is impossibly soft, we could not believe it. Lamb was slow cooked to perfection, taste amazing and the texture is soft, charcolly on the outside and super soft on the inside. On top of that the staff is so friendly made us feel right at home. It was my birthday dinner, I got a suprise treat and live performance of the happy birthday song. Unforgettable memory!
I went to this fabulous French restaurant for the first time with a friend from NY. The hostess who took our reservations & greeted us as we walked in, was absolutely charming. Even though it was mid-week, the restaurant which is quite spacious, was surprisingly full. The atmosphere there was warm, yet so vibrant & electric. My friend & I started off with a dozen oysters then shared a Seafood Platter consisting of lobster, jumbo shrimps, Spanish anchovies, ceviche & mussels. Though everything was good, I would have loved a white wine or other type of sauce to go with the mussels (something you could dip your bread in after). That would have made this platter even more sumptuous. We also had the Burrata, Focaccia, Mushrooms, Hazelnuts which was very tasty & a nice complement to our other orders. As for dessert, I had the Chocolate Lava Cake that was truly to die for! Last but not least, was the OUTSTANDING service our waiter Gregory gave us! He really made our evening so enjoyable from beginning to end. He even chose the perfect cocktails & wine to go with everything. In this respect at Gregory’s suggestion, my friend had the Versailles cocktail which was so good, I’m going to have it next time. Many thanks to Gregory & the rest of the staff at Le Pois Penché for an unforgettable evening!
I really enjoyed dining here! The food was very good, but I found that the courses came out too quickly. I had barely finished one piece of bread when the appetizers came! The salmon tartare was excellent, and easily my favourite dish that I tried. The duck confit was cooked very well, and the sauce was delicious. For dessert, the paris-brest and crème brûlée were both very good but not better than I would expect from a pastry shop (paris-brest) or regular steakhouse (crème brûlée). Overall, I would come again!
We got a reservation one day in advance. We tried some meat, which was good. The Soup of the day was delicious as well as the Waldorf salad. I think the duck confit was a little dry, but the flavor was good. The pasta with mushrooms and Parmesan cream was delicious. The tartare and the scargots were very good too.
On a recent trip to Montreal, I stopped into this spot for dinner, and it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic evening from start to finish. Every part of the meal was spot-on — I had mussels with a side of fries, but the real standout was the starter: a bold, hearty, and perfectly spicy ceviche. I’d go back just for that dish alone. I wrapped things up with a crème brûlée kissed with smoky bourbon — a clever twist on a timeless classic that was the perfect finale. The atmosphere is everything you’d want from a true Brasserie — warm, lively, and unpretentious, with a beautiful central bar anchoring the room. I chose a seat at the bar and couldn’t have been happier with the service. The team was friendly, funny, and clearly passionate about what they do. All in all, a stellar experience — great food, great vibe, and great people. Highly recommend a visit!
I’m visiting Montreal and wanted to try some real French food, so I came here. The duck confit was amazing — super tender, and the portions are huge. I got an appetizer, main, and dessert and honestly couldn’t finish any of them. The vibe is super chill too, really good for hanging out and chatting with friends, and the place looks really nice. The service was great ,the waiter even told me I could get everything as a set so it’d be cheaper. Love that.
Best French food in Montreal hands down! I easily made a reservation and from the time I walked in, I was promptly seated at a lovely table on the side of the bar. It was a bonus the server was able to speak English, he even offered to speak French or English. We end up ordering wine and the waiter made an amazing recommendation. Along with food specials, he suggested to us some great items. We end up ordering a couple of appetizers, a few entrees and desserts! Every so often he’d come by to check in with us, and it’s the little things that he does that makes our dining experience superb like pouring wine for us, cleaning any empty plates and maintaining a clean table. Other servers and even the hostess stopped by our table to make sure everything was to our liking. You can see a whole team effort and it doesn’t go unnoticed! Everything was just absolutely incredible, unforgettable dining experience and I’ll be sure to dine here again on my next visit back to Montreal!
